Matterform Media today announced that its line of Macintosh software products — including Spamfire and Yank — will be upgraded later this year to Universal Binaries, which will run natively on both Intel and PowerPC Macintosh computers.

Matterform is waiting for an upgrade from the supplier of its compiler, REALSoftware. REALSoftware has announced that it will provide Universal Binary Support to developers later this year. Matterform will begin releasing Universal Binary versions of its products shortly after REALSoftware releases its upgraded compiler.

Along with support for Universal Binaries, Matterform will be using REALSoftware’s compiler to build its software on the Apple Cocoa framework. Current versions of Matterform software are built on the Carbon Framework. By migrating to the Cocoa Framework, Matterform will be able to provide additional modern features. The move also aligns Matterform with the development priorities of Apple Computer, who have made it clear that the Cocoa Framework is the preferred development platform for the Macintosh, both Intel and PowerPC.

All Matterform products already work correctly on the newest Intel Macs. Apple’s “Rosetta” technology ensures that even non-native programs will run correctly. However, our products will run faster when we releases the Universal Binary versions.

Customers who have trouble with Matterform software on the new Intel Macs should contact Matterform technical support.
